According to official sector statistics processed by the CONFINDUSTRIA MARMOMACCHINE Studies Center – which will be presented in detail at the association’s General Assembly on June 26 – last year Italy’s exports of natural stones were worth $US 2,428 billion, a further 3.5% increase from the record levels of 2024. There was a slight downturn in the volumes exported (-0.7% for 2,097 tons), with the average price for stone materials Made in Italy sold abroad at its highest ever, $US 1,157.40 per ton.
About three-quarters (77.4%) of the worth of Italy’s exports of marbles, travertines, granites and natural stones in general were in sales of finished and semi-finished goods, which reached nearly $US 1,880 million (up 1.6% from 2024), although the biggest increase (10.4%) was in raw stones, with foreign revenue of $US 549.2 million. The buyer ranking for blocks extracted in Italy saw China in first place, with purchases worth $US 273.8 million (+10.7%, with a nearly 50% share), and India in second (59.5 million, up 17.9%). As for finished stone products – the ones with the highest added value – the top market was again the United States, whose imports, rising by 5.8%, reached $US 619.5 million (a third of the total), followed by Germany with 138.2 million (+12.3%), France with 115.2 million (-8.1%), Switzerland with 112.4 million, (+3%) and the United Arab Emirates with 73.7 million (+3%).
