Algeria: the building sector grew again in 2025

27 April 2026

The data issued by Algeria’s Office National des Statistiques (ONS) for 2025 confirmed an upturn in the country’s building sector, with an estimated increase in real industry value of 4.1% from the previous year.

Driving the sector – always strategically important for the Algerian economy – was the residential building sector, thanks primarily to ambitious housing projects promoted by the AADL (Agence National de l’Amélioration e du Développement du Logement), whose aim is to boost the country’s urban and social development. For example, from 2020 to 2024 a big plan was underway to create more than 1.7 million new homes country-wide, while in just the first half of 2025 work was started on building some 250,000 new housing units as part of a broader plan aiming to deliver 2 million by 2029. Predictions are for moderate but constant growth for the sector in coming years, too, with an average increase of 4.2% until 2029.

The Algerian market is one of primary importance for the Italian stone product and stone technology industry, whose exports to the North African country last year were worth 17.5 million $US. Apropos of this we remind readers that again this year CONFINDUSTRIA MARMOMACCHINE – with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), and in collaboration with ICE-Agency – will coordinate the participation of Italian stone-working machinery and equipment companies at BATIMATEC (Algiers, May 3 to 7, 2026), the reference show for the North African area showcasing building processes and technologies.
