The data processed by the CONFINDUSTRIA MARMOMACCHINE Studies Center for the first eight months of 2025 showed an essential stability in Italy’s exports of marble, travertine, granite and other natural stones, as already seen in previous monthly reports of last year.
Foreign revenue for the Italian stone industry from January to August – while showing a slight (2.8%) loss – remained close to the record amounts of 2024, reaching 1,403.6 million euros. At the same time, the downturn in volumes exports was somewhat greater (-3.8%, for 1,386 million tons) with an average price for materials sold abroad that therefore rose (by 1.1%) to 1,012.50 euros/ton.
Despite a downturn of 4.3%, finished and semi-finished products still accounted for 78% (1,090.8 million euros) of the total of Italian stone exports, while sales of raw materials, amounting to 312.8 million, grew by 2.9%.
Again in the first eight months of 2025 China was the top buyer of raw blocks of marble extracted in Italy, with imports worth 156.4 million euros (+4.2% from the same period in 2024), while the leading markets for finished and semi-finished stone products were the United States, with purchases worth 365.4 million (+3.6%), followed by Germany (80.8 million, -3.1%), France (68 million, -14.7%), Switzerland (62.7 million, -3.4%) and the United Arab Emirates (41.3 million, -9.4%).
