FOLLOWING THE WHITE MARBLE – Stone as a craft, the world as a source

When the Romans decided to build an empire in marble, they already knew where to look. The basins of the Apuan Alps — the region we now know as Carrara — were their primary source: a compact, luminous material capable of catching light like nothing else. With that marble they built temples, forums, baths and columns and, above all, they transformed it into mosaics, still admired in every corner of the Mediterranean.
