EN standards 16564 (Bridge Saws/CNC) and 15571 (Polishing Machines) cited in the Official European Journal

3 December 2021

Big news in the realm of technical standards for stone-working technologies. In fact, in the October 15 edition of the Official European Journal the following Type C standards for two important families of stone-working machines were cited:

– EN 16564:2020 | Machines and plants for mining and tooling natural stone – Safety – Requirements for bridge type sawing/milling machines, including numerical control (NC/CNC) versions.

– EN 15571:2020 | Machines and plants for mining and tooling natural stone – Safety – Requirements for surface-finishing machines.

With this last but fundamental formal passage of the standardization procedure begun in late 2017, the two aforesaid standards have now fully entered the ranks of Harmonized European Standards.

An important result ascribable to the commitment to machine safety of Confindustria Marmomacchine which, in synergy with UNI, the Italian Standardization Board, holds the Convenorship of the CEN TC 151 WG11, fully supported in standardization work also by the association’s Machinery Technical Committee, in which – through their technical managers and designers – the following member companies participate: APUANIA CORSI | BENETTI MACCHINE | INTERMAC DIVISIONE VETRO E MARMO-BIESSE | CMS | CO.B.A.L.M. | COMANDULLI | DAZZINI | DENVER | DONATONI MACCHINE | EMMEDUE DIVISION-INDUSTRIE MONTANARI | FABRIMAR | GMM | LOCHTMANS | MARINI QUARRIES GROUP | MARMO MECCANICA | PEDRINI | PELLEGRINI MECCANICA | PRUSSIANI ENGINEERING | SIMEC.

These two new standards enrich the bouquet of EN Harmonized Standards for the stone-working machinery sector, among which previously officially published are:

– EN 15572:2015 – Machines and plants for mining and tooling natural stone – Safety – Requirements for edge-finishing machines.

– EN 15154:2008 – Machines and plants for mining and tooling natural stone – Safety – Requirements for chain- and belt-slotting machines.

– EN 15162:2008 – Machines and plants for mining and tooling natural stone – Safety – Requirements for gang saws.

Among the standards being defined by WG11 are two important ones devoted to diamond-wire cutting technologies:

– FprEN 15163-1:2021 – Machines and installations for the exploitation and processing of natural stone – Safety – Part 1: Requirements for stationary diamond wire saws.

– FprEN 15163-2:2021 – Machines and installations for the exploitation and processing of natural stone – Safety – Part 2: Requirements for transportable diamond wire saws.

Once published these two standards will replace the current:

– EN 15163:2017 – Machines and installations for the exploitation and processing of natural stone – Safety – Requirements for diamond wire saws (non-harmonized).
