This year is proving to be one of essential “settling” for Italy’s exports of natural stones, after the record sales last year. The data processed by the CONFINDUSTRIA MARMOMACCHINE Studies Center in fact show that Italy’s foreign sales of marbles, travertines, granites and other natural stones – including both raw and finished products – in the first seven months of the year dipped only a bit (-2.2%) in value from the same period in 2024, amounting to 1,256 million euros.
This slight downturn was due to a decline in exports of finished and semi-finished materials (-3.3% from January to July 2024), decreased to 981.9 million euros. Despite the good progress made on the top destination market, the USA, whose imports grew by 6.2% to worth of 325.7 million euros, sales unfortunately lessened to all the other main buyers in Europe and the Persian Gulf area: Germany (-2.6%, to 74.8 million), France (-14.2% to 64.1 million), Switzerland (-1.9% to 56.8 million), United Arab Emirates (-8.1% to 36 million), Saudi Arabia (-35% to 35.4 million) and the United Kingdom (-13.2% to 34 million).
Still referring to the first 7 months of the year, remaining instead on the good levels of 2024 were exports of raw materials, amounting to 274.1 million euros (+2.1%), with China again the top buyer of blocks extracted in Italy, with worth of 134 million in imports (+2%), followed by India with 28.3 million (+5.9%).
