In 2024 a new record for Italy’s exports of natural stones: nearly 2.2 billion euros

In 2024 the Italian stone industry ended the year with a new export record. According to official data processed by the CONFINDUSTRIA MARMOMACCHINE Studies Center, Italy’s total sales on international markets of marbles, travertines, granites and natural stones in general – both raw and finished products – in fact grew in value by 5.8% from 2023, touching the historic peak of 2,178.5 million euros (the previous peak was of 2,153 million in 2022).

More limited was the increase in volumes exported (+3.8%, for 2,143.3 million tons), with an average price of Italian stone materials sold abroad that for the first time surpassed the threshold of 1,000 euros/ton (precisely 1,016.4 per ton).

About 80% of the revenue from Italian stone exports was from finished and semi-finished materials, which reached 1,721,2 million euros (+4,5% from 2023), even though the biggest increase was in sales of raw (+10.7%), at 457.3 million.

In regard to reference markets, again in 2024 China was in first place as buyer of blocks extracted in Italy, with 228.9 million in imports (+27%) and a 50% share. As for finished and semi-finished stone products, the US was on top, with imports worth 541.9 million (+14%), followed by Germany (125.2 million, -1.7%), France (115.6 million, +9.5%), Switzerland (100.9 million, -0.7%) and Saudi Arabia (84.5 million), which is the market that registered the most growth, +37.2%.
